Madison County Schools prepares more than 12,000 students for life after graduation through a curriculum built on real-world skills. The district’s two Ignite Academies operate as career and technical hubs for Madison County. Each campus offers specialized programs designed in partnership with local employers.

Ignite Academy Provides In-Demand Technical Training for Students
Both Ignite Academy campuses (North and South), provide students with numerous opportunities to explore career options in the Richmond area through various career pathways. Students can choose from e-commerce marketing to automotive technology and machine tool (CNC) to welding technology and residential carpentry.
Higher Education Anchored In Innovation
Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) stands at the center of Richmond’s higher education landscape. With more than 16,000 students from across the nation and 36 countries, EKU offers over 100 programs of study. Its new engineering program, launched in 2024, strengthens the region’s manufacturing and technology workforce.
EKU’s 892-acre campus supports a comprehensive academic environment and offers workforce development programs specific to meet business needs. The university’s collaboration with industry ensures that graduates enter the job market equipped to contribute immediately.
Model Laboratory School Leads Statewide Excellence
Located on EKU’s campus, Model Laboratory School serves 720 students from preschool through 12th grade. As Kentucky’s only laboratory school, it combines academic rigor with innovative teaching methods, setting a statewide benchmark for K–12 education.
Berea College Integrates Learning and Work
Just minutes from Richmond, Berea College offers a nationally recognized tuition-free education model. Each student participates in a work program that requires a minimum of 10 hours per week, gaining professional experience across more than 1,500 campus positions. With a $1 billion endowment and a long tradition of service, Berea produces graduates prepared to meet the evolving demands of modern industries.
