The Perfect Guide to the 2026 Millstone Festival in Downtown Richmond

Every October, historic Main Street in downtown Richmond comes alive to celebrate Madison County's rich milling heritage. Named after the collection of historic grinding stones at Millstone Park, the annual Millstone Festival packs a full day of live music, local crafts, family activities, and regional flavors into the heart of the city.

Downtown Richmond features a walkable, historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its streets feature well-preserved 19th century architecture housed with local professionals, beautiful retail establishments, and local restaurants.

This year’s festivities arrive in downtown Richmond Oct. 3 from 11 AM to 8 PM. Whether you are a local or taking a little weekend getaway, here is how to spend a perfect day downtown at the festival.

Festival Kickoff

As the festival officially kicks off at 11 AM, vendor booths open across downtown. Spend the festival’s opening hours browsing dozens of local craft vendors offering handmade woodworking, boutique apparel, jewelry, and fall decor.

If you're bringing kids along, head over to the family zone featuring a petting zoo, trackless train rides, inflatables, and roving street performers

Classic Car Cruise-In

Classic car enthusiasts won’t want to miss the sixth annual Classic Car Cruise-In, where polished chrome and vintage silhouettes line the street near the Courthouse Square. Admire pre-1973 rides, hot rods, and custom pick-ups as drivers and collectors compete for door prizes, trophies, and cash prizes.

Lunch and the Identical Twins & Triplets Contest

At lunchtime, head toward the Courthouse Square where regional food trucks and vendors serve up barbecue, funnel cakes, street tacos, and festival classics. Pair your lunch with a pour from local spots such as Dreaming Creek Brewery or Chenault Vineyards at the beer and wine garden.

At 1 PM, catch one of the festival's most unique traditions: the Identical Twins & Triplets Contest near Millstone Park. Audience members gather to watch siblings of all ages compete in a lighthearted matchup.

Simultaneously, live music takes the main stage across from the courthouse, kicking off afternoon performances with regional favorites The Jenkins Twins.

Walk Through a History Lesson in Millstone Park

Take a short break from the main stage to walk through Millstone Park and view the historic millstone collection assembled by local historian Speedy Denny. These preserved stones offer a direct look into how early Kentucky settlers ground grain along local waterways.

At 3 PM, return to the stage for a performance by Bourbon Revival, bringing high-energy bluegrass and rock covers to the crowd.

Live Music at Sunset

As evening approaches, downtown Richmond settles into a golden-hour atmosphere. Grab dinner from a food truck or step into one of Main Street’s brick-and-mortar restaurants.

At 6 PM, head back to the main stage as Rhythm Phoenix takes over for the headline concert. Sip a cold drink, enjoy the cool autumn evening, and dance as the festival winds down till close.
